Holiday Season in New York

Holiday Season in New York

The holiday spirit in New York City is festive and full of experiences for residents and for seasonal visitors as well. In this article we will share with you a few of the top places and sights to absolutely visit if you plan to be in NYC during this festive and joyous season!

A holiday visit to NYC must include a trip to Macy’s Department Store to view their windows and Santa-land displays. The crowds are intense because it is well worth the experience! The displays are exceptionally creative and festive and if you are not quite in a holiday mood when you arrive, you certainly will be after this visit! Other department stores with beautiful holiday window displays are Saks Fifth Avenue, Bergdorf’s, Tiffany’s, Barney’s, and Bloomingdale’s, all playing joyous festive music!

Another must-see experience in NYC during the holidays is the performance by the Rockettes at Radio City Music Hall for their Christmas Spectacular. Their precision dance presentation is spectacular, the show lasting almost ninety minutes and featuring live animals for the nativity scene, a kids’ paradise!

And the holidays just aren’t complete without attending a presentation of The Nutcracker Suite by the NYC Ballet Company. This glittering production is held at the Koch Theatre at the Lincoln Center and from the moment the lights dim, you will be transported to a magical place filled with adorable children, marching toy soldiers, and a stunning Christmas tree that glitters as the show goes on and on. The dance routines are unparalleled in this wondrous, renowned city of NYC!

So far, everything mentioned has been an indoor experience but one must definitely attend the breath-taking outdoor experience of the huge Norway Spruce Christmas tree in Rockefeller Plaza. This year, the tree goes up on November 28th. Typically over ninety feet tall, the tree is decorated with over 50,000 lights that remains illuminated until 9pm throughout the first week of January.  While admiring the tree, take a moment to watch the joyous ice-skaters by the tree in Rockefeller Plaza.

By now it’s about time for a holiday beverage, perhaps some delicious hot chocolate served with a peppermint stick. Head over to one of Jacques Torres’ nine NYC locations and warm your spirits with a drink, perhaps add a dash of Kahlua as well for the adults…mmm!

So these are just a few of the activities to enjoy in the Big Apple during the Holiday season, but be sure to purchase tickets to shows and make restaurant reservations well in advance for your trip to ensure you aren’t left out in the cold!!
